What makes Walou different?
This is more than a home. It’s more than just putting a roof over these children’s heads, giving them food to eat and a bed to sleep in.

Walou is about working with each child and recognising the individuality of each child. Each child will have his/ her own difficulties and struggles. Through individually tailored rehabilitation and reintegration programmes Walou will help them overcome their struggles.

But this is more than just a street children’s rehabilitation project. Walou is a community project and hence a community effort, everyone can be involved. These lost generation of street children are all our children and our responsibility as a community. We all have something to offer these kids; a talent, a skill, a hobby, knowledge and so much more.

Every single one of these children has a huge potential to excel in anything they turn their attention to. They have so much to offer society; they just haven’t been given the opportunity to do so.

These kids are to busy searching for their next meal, wondering where they are going to spend the night and how they are going to make it through to the next day. Their life is all about survival. It still amazes me as to how they actually survive and how they are the adults of themselves. They have so much endurance and will, it’s amazing.

Imagine then they could turn all that energy back into learning and growing; in turn feeding that back into the wider community…the potentials these children have to offer their communities are immeasurable!
