Well I’ve been asked this question a lot; by family, friends and everyone who I tell about Walou. Honestly I get shocked when people ask me this question... I mean it’s really simple to me. I’m not Moroccan and nor are the other trustees. But when was this about being Moroccan. It’s about these children, these children who have absolutely nothing and are completely alone and destitute. It’s scary but the majority have been sexually abused or involved in child prostitution. At the end of the day they are just kids, some as young as three! ... Can you imagine? I couldn’t feel more strongly about this issue if I were Moroccan. We all couldn’t. We were all fortunate enough to spend time living in Morocco and seeing this situation first hand, speaking to more and more kids and hearing more shocking stories. We met kids who had spent years alone on the streets so chronically addicted to glue that they could no longer socially interact with other people. Other kids who were actually born to the streets and who spent cold nights huddled in doorways caring for their younger siblings. Then there were those who were attempting to escape by tying themselves onto the bottom of chassis knowing that they might die but they were going to die trying! It’s heartbreaking how little they value their lives. They are just kids who should be dreaming about what they want to be when they grow up! Every child wherever they are from deserves the very basics; the very basics of food, clothing, safety, education and adult guidance. A chance in life to fulfil their true potential.
